The proportion of grandparents as caregivers does not surpass 13 percent in any county in the United States. Still, it is evident that a higher percent of grandparents in the southern states are responsible for their grandchildren. With the exception of a few hotspots in the Northwest, less than 2 percent of grandparents are responsible for their children in most of the northern United States. In the southern states, there are many counties where the percent of grandparents as caregivers surpasses 2 percent.
